you are already in the aviation industry and want to develop your professional competenceand/or
your aim is to apply to become a degree student in the Aviation Business Degree Programme and to complete a BBA degree.

Aviation Business Open Path Studies

Virtual studies during the academic year 2024–2025

The studies follow the Haaga-Helia Aviation Business Degree Programme curriculum. All the courses are virtual and asynchronous that can be completed at students own space without any online lectures and schedules. Key competence areas of expertise are focused on the basics of financial management, responsible leadership, customer journey, sales and business development and competence development. If you already have gained skills matching the course goals, for example through work experience, you can apply for recognition of prior learning via demonstrations and continue to more advanced courses to speed up your study progress.

When studying at a university of applied sciences you will need to acquire theoretical knowledge extensively and write a lot. It is a prerequisite that you have excellent study and time management skills, and that you have good oral and written English proficiency, see the prerequisites.The language of the Bachelor's programme is English. All students must have their own laptop for studies. Haaga-Helia students can also download some software on their own computer. See also device recommendations for students.

Aviation open path studies aim is to become a degree student in Aviation Business programme. The programme offers you an inspiring and unique e-learning, where you learn to manage expert tasks within different areas of rapidly evolving aviation industry and are able to cooperate in various cross-functional teams. You will have a reliable and up-to-date understanding of aviation business processes and operational environment. You will also have advanced knowledge of relevant rules and regulations, and business development mindset with the focus on economically viable, socially and environmentally responsible aviation business. The study time is maximum 3,5 years. Usually the open path students utilize demonstration possibilities and graduate in 2–2,5 years.

The Aviation Business Degree, 210 ECTS (credits), consists of:

Key competences in business 45 ECTS (done mostly during the open path studies)
Key competences in international business administration 30 ECTS
Languages 20 ECTS (started with the open path studies)
Major courses in Aviation Business 45 ECTS (started with the open path studies)
Complementary Professional Competences courses 25 ECTS
Work placement 30 ECTS = Basic Work Placement 15 ECTS and Professional Work Placement 15 ECTS (usually demonstrated with the open path studies)
Thesis in the field of Aviation Business 15 ECTS

A personal study plan will be done for each student according to their previous studies or work experience. That also defines the number of courses that the prospective student is required to do. The open university studies will be transferred to the degree student's status after receiving it.

In this open path study group we recommend to recognise prior learning (work experience and/or previous studies) via demonstrations. Demonstrations will efficiently advance and fasten your studies. Go carefully through course contents and if you find the contents and competences familiar to you, we highly recommend you to demonstrate. Each course has an own demonstration implementation.

Note!

If you have acquired competencies from previous higher education studies, your credits may be transferred to your degree on the basis of a certificate or transcript of records. Generally, credit transfer is only granted to degree students (after your open path studies when you have received the degree student´s status. Read more about credit transfer here.

The total price for the first semester in the Open UAS is 150 € (the whole academic year is 300 €) including the open path Aviation Business courses and demonstrations mentioned above.

An Open UAS student is not entitled to Kela student grants, meals subsidized by Kela, or other social benefits for students.

A info session will be arranged via Zoom on May 23, 2024 at 15:00–16:00. The date and time of the Orientation Day in August will be informed later.

Enrollment

Enrollment for studies in Autumn 2024 starts in May 28 at 9:00 (Finnish time). The places are filled on first-come-first-served basis.

Becoming a degree student

In order to become a degree student after the first year of study, you must have achieved at least 55 credit units by the time the Open Path application closes, and have shown good study motivation and success in your studies, minimum weighted GPA of 3,0. Students meeting the above-mentioned criteria during the academic year 2023–2024 are eligible to apply in the spring 2024 Open Path application to become degree students in the Aviation Business Degree Programme without having to participate in the Joint Application’s entrance examination.

This Aviation Business Bachelor's degree provides you with the skills, knowledge and competences to work in various positions in aviation business administration.
