Learning objectives and assessment
The course is designed to support and develop students’ communication skills, in writing as well as in speech. The course is tailor-made according to the needs of the students.
After successful completion of the course students will develop and improve their oral and written skills in the areas of general and ICT-oriented English, with specific aim at communication.
The student is able to communicate a message in English (oral or written) at a basic level.
In addition to skills and competencies mentioned for Grade 1, the student is able to communicate a message in English (written or oral) in a clear and correct way. He/she is also able to reflect on and identify his/her skills and the ways to develop them.
In addition to skills and competencies mentioned for Grade s 1 and 3, the student is able to communicate a message in English (written or oral) in a confident, idiomatic way. He/she is also able to reflect on and identify his/her skills and the ways to further develop them.
Passed courses are assessed on a scale of 1 to 5. The assessment criteria are presented for grades 1 - 3 - 5.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
If students have acquired the required competence in previous work tasks, recreational activities or on another course, they can show the competence with a demonstration and progress faster through their studies. More information and instructions for recognizing and validating prior learning (RPL) are available from the teacher responsible for the course.
Cooperation with the business community
The course is linked to the Master student’s own work experience. Guest lecturers could be invited from businesses.

Course contents are co-planned with the students at the beginning of the course, to suit best the development of their skills and competences. Examples of the contents:

Language of meetings and negotiations
Written assignments: report, learning diary, essay
