The course is aimed at those who wish to improve their English expression in writing and who need help with and feedback on their writing in English.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student
- understands grammatical rules.
- can apply these to his/her writing.
- knows where to look for help in idiomatic expressions, the use of prepositions and word choice.
- understands the importance of the flow and accuracy of the text.
- can build a structurally correct sentence in English and produce well balanced matter-of-fact text.
Producing English text related to the student's own work, such as writing a report. Receiving feedback on and practicinge editing texts. Learning to use dictionaries, other tools and source materials.
Three written assignments with practice and feedback, grammar and vocabulary tasks.
The course corresponds to the B2 level of the Common European Framework.
The course enhances and deepens the student's written business English skills.

Independent studies 80 h (producing and editing one's own text on the basis of the feedback given, working on the materials in Moodle).

Assessment components and their respective weights
Assessment is based on the quality of the writing produced during the course, and the grammar and vocabulary tasks in Moodle.
Students' performance is graded on the following scale: Excellent (5), Very good (4), Good (3), Satisfactory (2), Fair (1), Fail (0). The assessment criteria is presented on scale 1 to 5.
Grade 1 (min. 40% of the objective)
Grade 3 (min. 70% of the objective)
Grade 5 (min. 90% of the objective)
The student has completed all work by the deadlines. The work demonstrates a passable level of written English competence.
The student is capable of producing text in English at an average level when it comes to vocabulary and structures. All work has been completed by the deadlines.
The student is capable of producing fluent and stylistically suitable text that is virtually error-free.
The assessment of one’s own learning does not influence the grade. The assignment is the same for all courses/modules and the answers will also be used for course/module development. The assignment is completed on an electronic form.
