Language Studies, Multicultural Business Communication
Dr Teppo Varttala works as Principal Lecturer in language studies at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. His main areas of expertise are language teaching, multicultural business communication, pedagogical development and educational administration in tertiary education.
Prior to Haaga-Helia UAS, Dr Varttala worked as an instructor, lecturer, researcher and professor at the Department of English at Tampere University, Finland (1995–2001). He has also taught English and French at different educational institutions and levels and worked as a self-employed Finnish–English translator.
Dr Varttala majored in English Philology, with minors in French, pedagogics, and general linguistics. He completed his PhD thesis related to English for specific purposes in 2001. His publications include articles and conference papers on English for specific purposes and multicultural business communication. He has also acted as an academic referee for international journals and domestic textbook publishers.
