The GOING GLOBAL event encouraged: ”Think global – act local”
News The GOING GLOBAL event arranged at HAAGA-HELIA's Pasila campus raised awareness about international development and volunteerism. The event organized by International Services focused on promoting social and global responsibility. During the event HAAGA-HELIA also participated in Yle’s Red Nose Day campaign.
Unicef, Allianssi and the UN Association of Finland and many other non-profit organizations and volunteerprograms were present at the organizations bazaar. They explained what their organizations do and discussed potential work placement opportunities abroad.
The event was opened by the Vice President Paula Kinnunen. She reminded that everyone of us can find the best personal way to help e.g. by participating in voluntary work or by donating some money or clothes.
In the panel discussion they went over the themes of the event from the perspectives of Universities of Applied Sciences, students and organizations. The panel was chaired by LiiKe ry’s director Mr Ari Koivu. Panelists were from JEF Finland, The Committee of 100 in Finland (Sadankomitea) and Unicef. Panelists from HAAGA-HELIA were Project manager Tarja Koskinen-Nisula and the President of HAAGA-HELIA studens’ union HELGA, Mr Janne Hälinen.
During the event HAAGA-HELIA also took part in Yle’s Red Nose Day campaign by playing some “Funny for Money” games and collecting donations for the children of developing countries.
