Studying at HAAGA-HELIA

The language of instruction for exchange students at HAAGA–HELIA is English. HAAGA-HELIA provides a wide range of courses in English. There are seven degree programmes taught entirely in English. Exchange students are expected to have a good command of spoken and written English in order to be able to follow the lectures and complete the course assignments, oral presentations and exams. For more information on language requirements, please see Admission.

Course lists for autumn semester are published in May and course lists for the spring semester in December. Enrolment period for courses is in the end of May (for courses in the autumn semester) and in the beginning of January (for courses in the spring semester).

Enrolment period for courses in the autumn semester 2010 starts 3 January 2011. Detailed guidelines for study planning and course registration can be found from the International Student Guide. Please read the instructions through carefully before enrolment. Course registration is done online with the WinhaWille online course registration system.

HAAGA-HELIA has campuses in 3 different towns in Finland: Helsinki, Porvoo and Vierumäki. It is possible to study only in one town, because the distances are long (Helsinki-Porvoo 80km, Helsinki-Vierumäki 140km, Porvoo-Vierumäki 80km). You can select courses from various campuses in your home town, according to your field of study:

  • Please note the following points when choosing the courses:

    • You should select courses from the same study field that you study at your home university
    • Some courses have prerequisites (mentioned in the excel timetable)
    • Do not choose courses which overlap (take into account the distance between campuses, see below)
    • It is recommended not to take more than 35 ECTS

    Learning Agreement

The learning agreement is a contract between the student and his home university and HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences. It ensures that your studies at HAAGA-HELIA will be recognised at your home university. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that this document is completed and signed by both the sending and the receiving university.

Fill in the learning agreement after the course registration at the WinhaWille system. If possible, get the stamp and signature from your home university to your learning agreement before coming to Finland. Bring the learning agreement to the orientation and you will get a signature and stamp of the receiving institution. If it is not possible to get a signature from your home university before arrival, please send the learning agreement back to your home university for a signature from Finland.
