Instructions for e-books
Ellibs e-books
Our Ellibs e-books are copy-protected PDF files for use by library customers. The books can be downloaded onto any computer that has net access, also your home computer. They are read on the computer to which they have been downloaded. Printing is partly blocked for copyright reasons. E-books cannot be reserved.
Reading the e-books requires Adobe Digital Editions. You should check that you have the required software before loaning your book. Help and additional information.
The Haltia database includes a list of e-books that can be loaned (Choose keyword relevance in “Find Results in”, and type the word lainattava in “Find This”). Choose your book by clicking the title and then “Linked Resources” in the availability interleaf, which takes you to the Ellibs login page. Your user ID is your library card number and your password your PIN code (default 12345). The loan period is one day or three days. You can return the e-books yourself or they will be returned automatically after the loan period has expired.
Ebrary database
The Ebrary database contains thousands of e-books on different fields. The database is accessed via the HAAGA-HELIA Library page (E-resources – E-books – Ebrary). Reading the books requires Ebrary Reader, which can be installed at home via the Ebrary home page. The books can be printed a maximum of 20 pages at a time. You can create your own account in Ebrary. This allows you to save copies of the books on the Ebrary bookshelf.
HAAGA-HELIA staff and students can access Ebrary remotely via SSL VPN -portal (Vimpa). More information on this is available on IT Service's pages on MyNet: Extranet > Services and Wellbeing > IT Services > Remote Access > SSL VPN (Vimpa).
E-publications that can be browsed freely on the Internet
The Haltia database contains a selection of freely-browsable e-publications available via the Internet. The availability information interleaf contains a link to the publication in question.
