European Universities include different types of higher education institutions, from universities of applied sciences, technical universities and film and media art schools to comprehensive and research-intensive universities.

Selected from 62 applications, the 24 newly selected European Universities involve 165 higher education institutions from 26 EU countries and other countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme. The new European Universities will join the first 17 alliances of higher education institutions selected already in 2019.

Ulysseus Alliance integrates six higher educational institutions

Haaga-Helia is part of the ULYSSEUS alliance: An open to the world, persons-centred and entrepreneurial European University for the citizenship of the future. The alliance is formed of six higher educational institutions sharing common objectives and long-term cooperation. Together with Haaga-Helia, it involves Management Center Innsbruck (Austria), Technical University of Kosice (Slovakia), University of Cote d'Azur (France), University of Genoa (Italy) and University of Seville (Spain).

The diversity of the participating institutions is the strength of this alliance, which will involve over 182,000 students and academic and non-academic staff with the aim of creating a European University.

Ulysseus gathers the support of more than 90 partners between municipalities, regional governments, companies, think tanks and NGOs. The goal of this ten-year cooperation is to create an inter-university campus that would promote work-based experiences and integrate mobility programs. This would allow students to move freely among the member universities of Ulysseus, with automatic recognition of the credits they take, and access to professional practices.

Enhancing the quality and attractiveness of European higher education

With financial support from the Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programmes, European Universities enhance the quality, inclusion, digitalisation and attractiveness of European higher education.

European University Initiative is an essential part of building European Education Area by 2025. At the 2017 Gothenburg Summit, EU leaders outlined a vision for education and culture including the emergence by 2024 of some twenty ‘European Universities’.
