Business Tourism studies on Porvoo Campus offer a great base for a professional career in international tourism business, and enable students to choose between two alternative specializations:
- Sales and Service Development in Business Tourism
- Events Management.
Graduates acquire project management, research and development, coaching, problem solving, and innovation skills. Learning takes place as team work in real-life projects where personal development, networking, and presentation skills are highlighted.
Students can apply their skills in the dynamic tourism sector (airlines, travel agencies, events, hotels), and have specific know-how of their specialization, applicable in any global company. Graduates can produce, sell or buy travel services, work in the events industry, or start up a new business.
The studies are divided into the following modules: Communication Skills in Travel and Tourism; Tourism Operational Environment; Production and Sales of Travel and Tourism Services; Social and Collaboration Skills, and Business and Entrepreneurial Skills.
"Right now I am working at Tallink Silja, where I initially applied for a summer job as a salesperson. I have had a great opportunity to work in different departments in Tallink Silja; first a few months in the sales center (B2C) selling trips on the phone, then in customer relations for a few years and now in September. I started in my current position as Service Supervisor in our new Social Media team. Our team consists of four travel specialists and me. Our responsibility is to take care of customer service in Tallink Silja's social media channels, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We also handle our website's chat-contacts.
I really enjoyed my studies and student life in Porvoo. In addition to a great base where to start building my professional career, I gained a great international group of friends and a network of tourism professionals."

“With passion towards travelling and tourism I chose to study in the Degree Programme in Tourism at Haaga-Helia Porvoo campus. That choice shaped my future in many ways. This programme with its real-life case studies and projects gave me the knowledge I needed to start my career in tourism. Weather it was classroom studying on newest trends in event management, creating a business development plan for a local café in Porvoo or travelling to one of the biggest travel fairs in Berlin, they all made me confident and ready for real business from day one.
During my degree with Haaga-Helia I was also able to conduct exchange studies and internship in Malta, which gave me a better understanding of working in international environments, and from which I additionally gained a great international network.
After working at a hotel in Bristol, in Event Management in Malta and in Sales and Marketing in Helsinki, I today work for a global company called EF Education First as an Operations Manager in Oxford, United Kingdom.“
