Application to the International Business Acumen - IBA
- 30 students are accepted to study in the programme starting in autumn 2012
- The extent of this non-degree programme is 30 credit points
- The programme is implemented in English. The students are required to read demanding professional texts and write reports and assignments in English. Therefore, it is essential that the student is fluent in English (written and oral language skills)
- Student benefits (e.g. student financial aid or travel discounts) are not available for the IBA students
- Please check with the Finnish embassy or consulate the availability of a visa for these studies
- During the academic year 2012-2013 HAAGA-HELIA charges the students EUR 250.00 for continuing studies. This fee will be invoiced at the beginning of the studies and has to be paid in one instalment

Applying to the programme
Application period for the programme is 2.5.-25.5.2012. Applications and the required attachments should be submitted by 25th of May 2012 at 3 pm to the following address:

Admission Criteria
Please note that all the attachments must be written in English, Finnish or Swedish or they must be translated into one of these languages by an official translator.
1. University or university of applied sciences' degree (minimum Bachelor's level) or Finnish certificate called Opistotutkinto
Attachment: Copy of diploma and transcript
2. Relevant full time work experience in commercial or administrative field (maximum 10 points).
One year of fulltime work experience equals two points. Fulltime work is 150 hours per month (20 days = 1 month, 7 hours = 1 day. Work experience must have been gained after 18 years of age.
Attachment: A work certificate, reference letter or other relevant document from the employer clearly indicating the tasks and the duration of the employment
3. Proficiency in the English language
The applicant´s proficiency in the English language will be assessed on the basis of the information provided in the application form and the attached documents. The applicant may attach documents like language test certificates, language course certificates, transcripts of studies carried out in English or other documents indicating his/her English language skills. Please note that the English language skills of the applicant may be tested separately on the basis of the application.
4. Two essays in English (maximum 20 points)
The applicant should answer both essays 1 and 2 in English, which are included in the application form. Maximum length of each essay is one sheet.
The students will be accepted on the basis of aggregate points received in the selection. In case applicants receive equal points the emphasis is put on the following criteria.
1. Essay 1 and 2 (aggregate points from the essays)
2. Work experience from the relevant field
In case the above mentioned criteria does not solve the selection it is solved by drawing lots.
If the applicants have equal points and less than 5 years of work experience the work experience is counted in months which means that 1 month equals 0.17 points
Appeal
Applicant not satisfied with the decision may appeal to the Board of HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences in writing within 14 days of receiving the notification of the decision. The applicant shall be deemed to have received service in seven days from the sending of the decision letter. HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences effects the decision by sending a standard 1st class letter to the applicant with the address notified in the Application Form. The notification day of the decision is not counted as part of the 14-day appeal period.
