Spring 2011
In spring 2011 the number of course feedback forms was a little higher than in autumn 2010. In spring 2011 totally 7910 course feedback forms from 365 courses were collected.
The average mark for all courses in the programmes was 3.9 (scale 1-5). This result is a little better than before and the gap to the criterion defined by quality politic´s quality level 4.0 is now only 0,1).
The biggest problem still is that the students feel that course textbooks are not supporting the learning enough (the objective set for the average mark is ≥ 3.50). In 1th period the result was 3.10 and 2th period, a little bit better - 3.29. We repeat the request to our students to provide the teachers and programme directors more detailed feedback concerning textbook choice and use. The result is the only one point in the whole course feedback, which does not fulfill HAAGA-HELIAs quality criteria.
According to the students, all HAAGA-HELIA degree programmes offered relevant, useful and interesting courses (1st period average 3.96, and 2nd period 3.95).
The students generally felt that the required workload per credit was fair (1st period average 3.23 and 2nd period average 3.26; target average 3.0). The students also generally felt that their studies proceeded on schedule, even though there was an indication that the pace is sometimes faster than the optimal (1st period average 3.15 and 2nd period average 3.20; target value is 3.0).
HAAGA-HELIA has followed learning outcomes by asking the students to evaluate their skill and knowledge level before and after the course. The result is subtracted from questions 15 and 14. The starting level is generally 2.5 as an average, and the increase in average has varied between 1.15 and 1.28 (in HAAGA-HELIA’s total marks). In spring 2011 students have evaluated their skills and knowledge to be considerably better after the course that before it: 1st period 3.82 (before course 2.56) and 2nd period 3.82 (before course 2.55). When interpreting the result it is necessary to remember that the theoretical maximum for the advancement is 2.5 if the starting level in 2.5. (If the starting level was 1, the maximum advancement would be 4.) HAAGA-HELIA has not set a quality criterion for the advancement level because we cannot control the starting level of our students in practice, and the starting level highly determines the value provided by the subtraction.
Students gave average 3.7 to their own work, which is a good result. Even the standard deviation was in line with the other results (0.8) telling that the variance between the students is at normal level.
