Autumn 2007

Course feedback for the autumn term's two periods was gathered by means of a form containing 19 structured questions. The form contained only a few minor changes compared to the version which was used in spring. If compared to the first period of the year, the amount of degree programmes joining the system increased significantly (4th period 31 programmes, 5th period 33 programmes as total). The number of feedback was 2720 in 4th period and 3772 in 5th period. Also the new electronic feedback system for online courses was in use.

Over the half year period under review, no significant differences were identified between the degree programmes. The average mark for all courses in the programmes covered was 3.68 in the fourth period, and 3.66 in the fifth period (scale 1-5). This can be considered as a very good result, especially because the variance was very low - also if compared to the spring periods.

The biggest criticism concerned again the course textbooks (average mark 3.08 for both periods), which are not seen to serve learning needs as would be expected (the objective set for the average mark is ≥ 3.50). Considering this, we kindly ask our students to provide our teachers and programme directors with more detailed feedback concerning textbook choice and use.

According to the students, all HAAGA-HELIA degree programmes offered relevant, useful and interesting courses (average 3.86 in both periods).

The students generally felt that the required workload per credit was relatively fair (4th period average 3.24 and 5th period average 3.26; target average 3.0). The students also generally felt that their studies proceeded on schedule, even though there was an indication that the pace is sometimes faster than the optimal (4th period average 3.19 and 5th period average 3.20; target value 3.0).

The more spesific programme based table of results is published in the HAAGA-HELIA's intranet. The teachers and programme directors receive course based reports approximately six weeks after the period has ended.

Please feel free to contact HAAGA-HELIA’s quality manager Juha P. Lindstedt with regard to any questions concerning course feedback and the feedback system.
