Accommodation
The accommodation application process varies between HAAGA-HELIA campuses. Please contact HAAGA-HELIA International Services or your home university’s international office to confirm if you will be studying in Helsinki, Porvoo or Vierumäki before applying for accommodation.
Housing information for Porvoo and Vierumäki campuses is at the bottom of the page.
Do you need a hostel for the first nights of your stay in Helsinki?
We recommend you to book CheapSleep hostel for your first nights/weeks before getting for example your HOAS room! Use the booking code STUDENT in their reservation system at www.cheapsleep.fi (the booking code is active starting from June 1, 2012). Price per night: 22€.
Helsinki
Please note! Accommodation situation in the Helsinki region is challenging. The rental level is high and there is lack of housing in the region. We recommend that exchange students studying in Helsinki apply and accept accommodation offered by HOAS.
Exchange students who have been selected to study at the Helsinki campuses (Haaga, Malmi, Pasila or Vallila) apply for accommodation with the HOAS (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region) at this web site: online accommodation application.
The accommodation application deadline for students applying for the autumn term 2012 is 1 May 2012. The deadline for students applying for the spring term 2013 is 1 November 2012.
Before filling out the application form for accommodation, please read through the instructions on the HOAS website.
In the HOAS application form there is a question about your Faculty/Unit. Please select your “home campus” according to your field of study:
- Hospitality or Tourism in Helsinki: Haaga campus
- Business or IT in Helsinki: Pasila campus.
Students should apply by the given deadline after their home university has nominated them as an exchange student to HAAGA-HELIA. Accommodation is reserved on a “first come first served” basis.
HAAGA-HELIA does not guarantee housing for students who have applied after the application deadline!
HOAS will send housing offers to students by email and by post in June-August 2012. Please note that you will receive only one housing offer. Tenancy agreements for exchange students are always made for a fixed period of time. Rent is 391-538 €/month depending on the accommodation type.
Important to note about HOAS accommodation options:
- Studio or a shared studio apartments at HOAS Kamppi (Address: Pohjoinen Rautatienkatu 29)
Students who have been offered a HOAS studio or a shared studio apartment for the autumn semester should note that the HOAS Kamppi studio apartments will not be available until the beginning of September. Students living in these studio apartments should be prepared to book a room from a hotel/hostel for August until they can move into their HOAS studio apartment.
We recommend you to book CheapSleep hostel for your first nights/weeks before getting your HOAS room! Use the booking code STUDENT in their reservation system at www.cheapsleep.fi (the booking code is active starting from June 1, 2012). Price per night: 22€.
Students should note that the shared studio apartments are recommended only for couples or good friends, because there is only one small bedroom in the apartment, which is shared, offering limited privacy. Students who want their own bedroom should apply for a room in a larger shared apartment. - Apartment Locations
The HOAS apartments are located (map) in the city of Helsinki, in different suburban areas. Exchange students can apply for a single room, a studio apartment or a shared studio apartment. Male and female students are placed in separate apartments, unless students apply for housing as a couple. HOAS will try to place students according to their wishes regarding the flat type, location, and the proximity of their home campus, but please note that this is not always possible. - Rooms
All rooms and apartments reserved for exchange students are furnished with basic furniture such as a bed, mattress, table, chairs, etc. All the HOAS rooms have free internet connection, but students must bring their own computer. All students must buy their own pillows, blankets, bed linen, towels and dishes. - Keys
- If you arrive during the pick-up service you will receive your keys from the pick-up service desk at the airport, together with your Welcome Envelope.
- Students arriving before or after the pick-up service can collect their keys directly from the HOAS office or from the International services. Please inform your International coordinator at HAAGA-HELIA if you are arriving before or after the pick-up.
- You can also ask your tutor to pick them up for you.
Students who are not using the pick-up service and who cannot pick up their keys during HOAS’s opening hours need to book a room from a hostel/hotel until they can collect their keys from HOAS.
If you have any questions regarding your housing in Helsinki please contact: housing(at)haaga-helia.fi.
Porvoo
Students coming to study on Porvoo Campus will be contacted by email after the application period has finished.
Students coming to Porvoo live in the student residence in Kevätkumpu, which is located 2,5 kilometres from the campus. The apartments are 2–3 bedroom modest apartments with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Students have their own bedroom. In most of the rooms there are a bed, matt lamp, chair and a desk. All apartments are non-smoking. Students can subscribe an internet connection to the apartment. The rooms vary in size from 20.90 to 25.60 square meters and the rents vary accordingly from 241.36–291.92 € / month including furniture, water and electricity.
Ms Mari Austin, International Coordinator of Porvoo campus, informs the accommodation office about all incoming exchange students, so there is no need to fill in a separate accommodation application. The accommodation office will then contact each student. Students make a rent deposit of €500 to confirm the room. Students sign a tenancy agreement upon their arrival and receive their keys against the deposit receipt.
Vierumäki
Exchange students coming to study at the Vierumäki campus have to apply for housing with the VIERUMÄKI Incoming Exchange Student Accommodation Form. The deadline is the same as for the student exchange application; 1.5. for the autumn semester and 1.11. for the spring semester. HAAGA-HELIA does not guarantee housing for exchange students who have applied for housing after the given deadline. Return the application to Ms Noora Viljanen noora.viljanen(at)vierumaki.fi , tel. +358 3 84241207.
The apartments are 1-3 bedroom apartments with a shared kitchenette and bathroom. There will be 2-5 students in one apartment. All rooms and apartments reserved for exchange students are furnished and students must bring their own bed linen and towels. All apartments are non-smoking.
The rent is invoiced once a month. The one month guarantee rental
payment will be charged with first renting invoice, the guarantee rental payment will be returned in the end of lease period if all the rents are paid and apartment is kept properly.
