Information about the learning environment
The operations of the Porvoo campus are characterised by co-learning and involvement in projects with a focus on working life. The campus is also open to the public daily, giving people access to a nice restaurant, an extensive professional library and a number of comfortable meeting places.
Studies are completed in large modules, and learning is promoted in many different ways: reading literature, participating in lectures, seminars and various workshops, and finding solution models independently and in groups.
Accessibility and support for learning
The Porvoo campus also takes into consideration students with reduced mobility. Taxis for the disabled can stop right in front of the main entrance. Every floor on the campus is accessible by lift and equipped with automatic doors on each side of the main lift shaft. There are also sanitary facilities for persons with reduced mobility on every floor.
Students receive support for their studies from student tutors, student counsellors and teachers. The guidance supports students’ learning and study planning. Students have a print quota for printing a certain amount of study-related materials free of charge each term.
Each Haaga-Helia campus has its own library. You can order books from any campus library and they will be delivered to your own library by internal mail. You can also return loans to any campus library.
Information about living costs
Students can apply for student housing through the Porvoo Student Housing Foundation at www.porvoonopiskelija-asunnot.fi.
Students get bus and train tickets at discounted rates with the VR and Matkahuolto student cards and the HST/HRT travel card (only those students who reside permanently in the HSL/HRT regional ticket area).
Haaga-Helia’s Student Union HELGA is a statutory part of the university of applied sciences, and its most important duty is promoting the interests of students. The student organisations have offices at the Pasila campus. HePo ry works as local student union for Porvoo students. HePo also rents out lockers for Porvoo Campus students.
The restaurant at the Porvoo campus provides lunch at student rates for students, who must present a valid student card or KELA meal subsidy card at the cash desk.
Health care services
The statutory health care services of university students are the responsibility of the local health stations and public health nurses working at the educational institution. Students who have started their studies can get a personal health interview during their first year. The nurse can also be contacted at later stages of studies.
